The community event connects environmental remediation of the San Lorenzo River through Downtown Santa Cruz and investing in the Santa Cruz local economy.
The event introduces a new model for community river cleanup and habitat restoration. Its goal is to clean the entire San Lorenzo River through Downtown Santa Cruz while rewarding volunteers with spendable value such as Downtown Dollars or local business gift cards.
SCGX is led by the Bridging the Gap | River Beautification co-founders Jennalee Dahlen of Yōso Wellness Spa, Melissa Begin of Visit Santa Cruz County, and Taylor Lahey and will take place on April 11.
Bridging the Gap (BTG) is a community-driven environmental initiative founded in April 2019 by co-founders Jennalee Dahlen and Melissa Begin that bring people together through hands-on stewardship of the San Lorenzo River and surrounding areas.
SCGX is supercharges their cleanup and habitat restoration efforts by adding greater coordination, capacity, and incentive rewards.
Volunteers collect and document litter along the San Lorenzo River with Save Our Shores or habitat restoration with Coastal Watershed Council and earn value to spend in Downtown Santa Cruz businesses like Downtown Dollars, ensuring the value created by cleanup efforts continues circulating through Santa Cruz businesses.
